Turin Gallatin V HX Espresso Machine with PID
Description
The Turin Gallatin V HX (G3035) is a semi-automatic espresso machine built for home baristas and dedicated coffee enthusiasts who demand genuine café-quality results without compromise. At its core is an E61 thermosiphon-heated grouphead paired with a 2-liter heat exchange boiler, letting you brew and steam at the same time with no waiting. PID temperature control puts precision in your hands, so every shot is dialed in exactly the way you want it.
From the mirror-finish stainless steel body to the black walnut joystick and portafilter handles, the Gallatin V is as striking as it is capable. Adjustable preinfusion, a digital display, a built-in shot timer, and an optional flow control upgrade give you a level of control that competes with machines costing significantly more - making this one of the most compelling heat exchange machines available for home use.

FAQ
What is a heat exchange (HX) boiler and why does it matter?
A heat exchange boiler uses a single large boiler to produce steam, while a separate internal tube runs through it to heat fresh water to brew temperature. This means you can brew espresso and steam milk at the same time - no waiting, no flushing, no switching modes. It's the same technology found in many professional café machines and is one of the biggest upgrades from entry-level single-boiler machines.
What does the PID do on the Gallatin V?
The PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller precisely regulates the boiler temperature and holds it steady at your chosen set point. Without a PID, boiler temperature can swing above and below the target, leading to inconsistent shot temperatures. With the PID, you can dial in your exact boiler temperature and get repeatable results shot after shot. You can adjust it directly from the digital display screen on the machine.
What is the E61 grouphead and why is it so popular?
The E61 is a classic grouphead design that has been used in espresso machines since 1961. It uses thermosiphon circulation to keep the group constantly heated by the boiler, resulting in excellent thermal stability during extraction. It's widely regarded as one of the most reliable and consistent grouphead designs available, and it's the standard on many prosumer and professional machines. It also has a large aftermarket ecosystem for accessories and parts.
Should I add the flow control upgrade?
Flow control allows you to manually adjust the rate of water flow through the puck during extraction, opening up advanced shot profiling techniques. If you enjoy experimenting and want to explore low-pressure preinfusion, pressure profiling, or extended lever pulls, the flow control upgrade is well worth adding. If you're newer to espresso or prefer a more straightforward workflow, the standard machine already includes adjustable preinfusion and delivers excellent results without it.
Can I use the Gallatin V plumbed directly to a water line?
Yes - the Gallatin V includes a fast connector and a manual valve so you can switch between the 1.7-liter onboard water tank and a direct water line connection. However, because the machine uses a vibratory pump (rather than a rotary pump), direct connection is recommended for occasional use only to prevent premature pump wear. For most home users, the water tank is the ideal setup.
Is this machine difficult to learn for a first-time espresso maker?
The Gallatin V is best suited for home baristas who have some familiarity with espresso basics or who are eager to learn. The digital display and shot timer make dialing in shots more approachable than on machines without these features, and the semi-automatic lever gives you hands-on control. There is a learning curve - as with any E61 HX machine - around flushing the group before pulling a shot to normalize brew temperature, but this becomes second nature quickly. The results you can achieve make the learning process very rewarding.
