Tuff Stuff Alpine 51 Hardshell Rooftop Tent - Aluminum, 2 Person

Description

The Tuff Stuff Alpine 51 is a premium hardshell rooftop tent built for serious overlanders who demand versatility, durability, and fast setup. Featuring a one-of-a-kind dual-action opening roof, you can pop it into a wedge for a low-profile shelter or fully open it into a pop-up configuration with added windows and 360-degree screen visibility - all deployable by one person in under a minute. The aluminum shell is rugged enough for four-season camping, while the Poly/Cotton Rip-Stop tent fabric carries an EPA-certified antibacterial treatment and a waterproof rating exceeding 3500MM.

Inside, a 2.75-inch memory foam mattress and blackout-coated walls create a sleep environment that rivals a hotel room at altitude. The built-in T-slot rail system surrounding the exterior lets you mount awnings, shower tents, and water supplies directly to the tent - making the Alpine 51 a true basecamp platform for extended trips into the backcountry.

Key Features

  • Dual-Action Opening Roof: Opens as a wedge (rear latches) or full pop-up (front + rear latches) - two distinct configurations from one tent.
  • One-Minute Solo Setup: Gas-strut-assisted opening means one person can deploy or pack down the Alpine 51 in about 60 seconds.
  • Aluminum Shell: Hard, weather-resistant aluminum top and bottom protect the tent in all four seasons and handle up to 1,200 lbs weight capacity.
  • EPA-Certified Tent Fabric: Poly/Cotton Rip-Stop 3200 GSM with antibacterial/mold-inhibiting treatment, blackout coating, and >3500MM waterproof rating.
  • 4 German-Engineered Gas Struts: Provide smooth, controlled lift for both wedge and pop-up roof positions.
  • T-Slot Rail System: 4 exterior T-slot rails using standard M8 hardware - attach awnings, shower tents, or gear directly to the tent body.
  • Built-In Roof Rack: Two 50" roof rack bars on top of the closed tent for carrying kayaks, bikes, and additional gear.
  • 2.75" Memory Foam Mattress: 48x85-inch sleeping surface delivers comfort far beyond typical camping pad setups.
  • YKK Zippers with Paracord Pulls: Premium zippers minimize road noise while driving - a detail overlanders will immediately appreciate.
  • Slim Packed Profile: Under 8" closed height (excluding roof rack) keeps your vehicle's center of gravity low on the road.
  • 3 Entry Options: Telescoping ladder with angled steps can be positioned on the passenger side, driver side, or rear of the tent.
  • Dimmable LED Light Strip: White diffused interior lighting with Velcro backing mounts on either side (USB power pack required, not included).

The dual wedge and pop-up configurations mean you're not locked into one setup for every trip, giving you the flexibility to adapt to your campsite, weather, and company. The built-in T-slot rail system transforms the tent into a full modular platform, letting you grow your setup over time as your adventures evolve. Trusted by overland enthusiasts and featured in Tread Magazine, the Alpine 51 has earned its reputation as one of the most versatile hardshell rooftop tents on the market. FAQ

What vehicles is the Alpine 51 compatible with?

The Alpine 51 mounts to any vehicle with a roof rack, bed rack, or trailer equipped with crossbars up to 3.25 inches wide. The included mounting hardware and flat brackets are adjustable from 2.75 to 3.25 inches. Always verify your roof rack's dynamic load rating against the tent's 248-lb weight before purchasing.

What is the difference between the wedge and pop-up configurations?

In wedge mode, only the rear latches are released, lifting the back of the tent while the front stays low - ideal for a more aerodynamic profile or quick overnight stops. In pop-up mode, both the front and rear sections open fully, raising the entire roof and unlocking additional windows for full 360-degree ventilation and a more spacious interior. Both modes use the same ladder and sleeping area.

Does this tent work in cold weather or winter conditions?

Yes - the Alpine 51 is rated for 4-season use. The aluminum shell, >3500MM waterproof Poly/Cotton Rip-Stop fabric, and blackout coating work together to insulate and protect occupants in rain, snow, and cold temperatures. For extreme cold, pairing with an appropriate sleeping bag rated for your conditions is recommended, as the tent itself does not include active heating.

Is the annex room included?

No - the annex room is not included with the Alpine 51 but is listed as coming soon from Tuff Stuff Overland. The tent does include window awnings and a full-screen room capability that provides excellent ventilation and protection without an annex.

How does freight delivery work for this tent?

The Alpine 51 ships via LTL Truck Freight on a pallet. After your order, allow 2-3 business days for palletizing, then 7-10 business days for transit to the destination terminal. Delivery is by appointment - the carrier will call the phone number on your order to schedule. For residential addresses, delivery is curbside only (sidewalk, driveway, or garage). Inspect the shipment before signing, and report any concealed damage within 72 hours of receipt.

Can one person set up and take down the tent?

Yes - once the tent is already mounted to your vehicle, a single person can open and close the Alpine 51 in approximately one minute thanks to the four German-engineered gas struts. However, the initial mounting of the tent to your vehicle requires a minimum of 2-3 people due to the 248-lb weight.
