FAQ
What is a CPM machine and how does it help knee recovery?
A Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine gently moves your knee joint through a controlled range of motion without requiring any active muscle effort from the patient. This promotes blood flow, reduces swelling, prevents scar tissue formation, and helps restore flexibility after surgery or injury. CPM therapy is commonly prescribed after procedures like total knee replacement or ACL reconstruction.
Is the Kinetec Spectra Essential suitable for home use?
Yes. While it is a clinical-grade device, the Spectra Essential is designed with home users in mind as well. Its lightweight 37 lb frame, dual carry handles, and simple hand control make it manageable for patients recovering at home, especially when guided by a physical therapist's prescribed program.
Can the patient change the settings during a session?
No - the patient lock-out feature prevents any unauthorized changes to the programmed settings. This ensures the device operates exactly as prescribed by the clinician throughout the entire therapy session.
What is the maximum range of motion this CPM supports?
The Kinetec Spectra Essential supports a range from hyperextension to 120 degrees of full flexion. This covers the full therapeutic spectrum typically needed during post-operative knee rehabilitation.
Does this unit require professional setup or assembly?
The Spectra Essential is designed to be relatively straightforward to set up. However, we recommend following the included instructions carefully, and having a clinician or therapist guide the initial setup and programming to ensure the device is calibrated correctly for the patient's needs. Please contact us if you have questions about setup assistance.
