HCI Fitness APT-1 Single Unit Active and Passive Trainer
Description
The HCI-APT-1 is a fully digital upper and lower body active and passive trainer designed for rehabilitation, mobility enhancement, and therapeutic exercise. Built by HealthCare International - a family-owned, USA-based medical equipment manufacturer - this machine is FDA-registered and meets ISO 13845 and CE standards, giving clinicians and users confidence in its medical-grade quality. Using isokinetic physiotherapy methods, the APT-1 delivers measurable, consistent results across a wide range of users, from early-stage rehabilitation patients to those working on long-term mobility maintenance.
The unit supports both passive assistance and active resistance modes, making it adaptable to each user's current ability and therapy goals. Its low-profile, portable frame is wheelchair accessible and can be used on the floor or on a tabletop, and it pairs with the optional HCI-UBE Table for a dedicated upper body ergometer setup. Whether you're outfitting a physical therapy clinic, a hospital fitness suite, or a home recovery space, the APT-1 delivers clinical performance in a compact, easy-to-use package.

FAQ
What is the difference between active and passive modes?
In passive mode, the unit's motor drives the pedals or handles, moving the user's limbs for them - ideal for individuals with very limited strength or mobility who need assisted movement to maintain circulation and range of motion. In active mode, the user pedals or cranks against motor-controlled resistance, providing a real workout that builds strength and endurance. The APT-1 supports both, so it can follow a patient through their entire rehabilitation journey.
Can the APT-1 be used by wheelchair users?
Yes. The HCI-APT-1 was specifically designed with wheelchair accessibility in mind. Its low-profile frame is only 1.25" tall, allowing users to roll right up to the unit without any obstruction. It can be placed on the floor for lower body use or on a tabletop or the optional HCI-UBE Table for upper body ergometer (UBE) work.
Does this unit require any special electrical setup?
No special wiring or installation is needed. The HCI-APT-1 plugs into a standard wall outlet and accepts AC 100V-240V at 50/60Hz, making it compatible with standard US electrical systems and usable internationally as well.
Can I use this for upper body exercise as well as lower body?
Absolutely. The APT-1 includes both foot pedals and comfort grip handles, and switching between them takes only seconds using the push-button quick release system. When paired with the optional HCI-UBE Table, it becomes a dedicated upper body ergometer (UBE) workstation - a popular setup for stroke rehabilitation and upper limb therapy.
Is the HCI-APT-1 a medical-grade device?
Yes. The HCI-APT-1 is registered with the FDA as a medical device and complies with ISO 13845 and CE standards. It also qualifies under the Buy American Act, which is relevant for facilities that require American-made products for government or institutional procurement.
What does isokinetic mean and why does it matter?
Isokinetic exercise maintains a constant speed of movement while varying resistance - as the user pushes harder, the machine pushes back proportionally to keep the speed steady. This approach is widely used in physiotherapy because it allows muscles to work at maximum effort throughout the full range of motion without the risk of sudden overload, making it both safe and effective for rehabilitation.
