Gen-Y Hitch The BOSS Torsion-Flex Weight Distribution Shank

Description

The GEN-Y Hitch BOSS Torsion-Flex Weight Distribution Shank delivers one of the smoothest towing experiences on the market, purpose-built for drivers who demand control, durability, and comfort on every haul. Using GEN-Y's patented Torsion-Flex technology, the shank's built-in suspension absorbs road shock through heavy-duty rubber torsion cords, reducing bounce and vibration by up to 90% compared to a standard rigid hitch setup. Whether you're pulling a travel trailer, fifth wheel, or toy hauler, this system protects both your tow vehicle and cargo from the punishment of long-distance towing.

Fabricated from heavy-duty steel and finished in a durable silver-vein powder coat over a zinc primer and epoxy base, the BOSS shank is engineered for long-term dependability in all conditions. Available in 2", 2.5", and 3" receiver sizes with towing capacities of 10,000, 16,000, or 21,000 lbs, and a wide range of drop/rise options from 6.5" to 19", this shank is compatible with any weight distribution system and fits virtually any towing setup. All GEN-Y Hitch products are rigorously tested and exceed SAE-J684 Weight Testing Requirements.

Receiver Size & Drop Options - Which to Choose

  • 2" Receiver (10K) - 6.5" or 9.5" Drop: Designed for lighter tow vehicles with standard 2" receivers pulling trailers up to 10,000 lbs. The 6.5" drop suits trucks with moderate hitch-to-trailer height differences, while the 9.5" drop handles greater height offsets. Ideal for smaller travel trailers and campers.
  • 2" Receiver (16K) - 6.5", 9.5", 12.5", or 15.5" Drop: Upgraded 16,000 lb. capacity in a 2" receiver shank. Wider drop range accommodates taller trailers or lifted trucks, making it a versatile mid-range choice for heavier half-ton and three-quarter-ton setups.
  • 2.5" Receiver (10K) - 6.5" or 9.5" Drop: Combines a heavy-duty 2.5" receiver with a 10K rating - a great fit for newer heavy-duty trucks that have factory 2.5" receivers but tow lighter loads where a smoother ride is the priority.
  • 2.5" Receiver (16K) - 6.5" or 9.5" Drop: The 2.5" shank with 16K capacity is well-suited for three-quarter-ton and one-ton trucks towing mid-weight fifth wheels and travel trailers, delivering the Torsion-Flex ride quality in a robust package.
  • 2.5" Receiver (21K) - 7", 11", 15", or 19" Drop: The most popular heavy-duty configuration. 21,000 lb. capacity covers fifth wheels, toy haulers, and large travel trailers. The extended drop range (up to 19") makes it compatible with lifted trucks or trailers with very high coupler heights.
  • 3" Receiver (21K) - 7" or 11" Drop: Exclusively for select Ford vehicles manufactured after 2017 with 3" factory receivers. Provides maximum receiver-to-shank engagement and 21K towing capacity. Confirm your receiver size before ordering. Best for commercial-grade or maximum-capacity towing scenarios.

Manuals & Guides

FAQ

What is Torsion-Flex technology and how does it work?

Torsion-Flex is GEN-Y Hitch's patented built-in suspension system that uses heavy-duty rubber torsion cords inside the shank. As road bumps and vibrations travel through the hitch, the rubber cords absorb and dampen that energy before it can transfer to the tow vehicle or trailer. The result is up to 90% smoother ride quality compared to a standard rigid weight distribution hitch - protecting both your vehicle, your trailer, and your cargo.

Is this compatible with my existing weight distribution system?

Yes. The BOSS Torsion-Flex Weight Distribution Shank is designed to work with any weight distribution system currently on the market. It acts as the drop shank component, so you can pair it with your existing head and spring bars without needing to replace your entire weight distribution setup.

How do I choose the right receiver size and drop?

First, confirm your tow vehicle's receiver size - most half-ton trucks use a 2" receiver, while many three-quarter-ton and one-ton trucks use 2.5". Select 3" only if your Ford (2017 or newer) is equipped with a factory 3" receiver. For drop, measure the difference in height between the bottom of your receiver tube and the top of your trailer's coupler when level. Choose the drop configuration that brings your trailer to a level or very slightly nose-down position for safe towing.

What is the break-in period for this hitch?

GEN-Y Hitch recommends an average break-in period of approximately 500 miles for the Torsion-Flex components to fully seat and perform at their best. During this period, some additional movement may be felt as the rubber cords settle into their working range. After break-in, ride quality should be at its smoothest.

What warranty does the BOSS Torsion-Flex come with?

The rubber torsion-flex components are covered by a 5-year warranty. All other hardware and structural components carry a limited lifetime warranty. An optional upgrade to a Lifetime Torsion-Flex Warranty covering the rubber components is available for an additional cost.

Can I use this hitch with a 3" receiver?

Yes, but with an important note: 3" receiver shanks are only offered on select Ford vehicles manufactured after 2017. Before ordering the 3" receiver variant, please confirm that your vehicle is equipped with a 3" receiver. Most trucks - including Ford F-250 and F-350 models prior to 2017 - use a 2.5" receiver.
