Description
The Freenotes Merry is a bright, cheerful metallophone designed for outdoor parks, playgrounds, and public spaces where music brings people together. A smaller counterpart to the Pegasus, the Merry delivers a lyrical, sustaining tone across 11 anodized aluminum notes tuned to the C Major Pentatonic scale - making it nearly impossible to play a wrong note. Its resonated design amplifies every strike, filling the surrounding area with warm, inviting sound that encourages spontaneous play and musical exploration.
Built for years of outdoor use with minimal maintenance, the Merry is a popular choice for inclusive playgrounds, sensory gardens, nature trails, and community parks. - Surface Mount: Bolts onto an existing concrete pad or hard surface. Ideal when ground excavation is not practical, or when a clean, above-grade installation is preferred. Available with Recycled Plastic or Steel posts.

- Wall Mount: Attaches directly to a wall or solid vertical surface. Perfect for sensory rooms, courtyards with existing walls, or compact spaces. Available in this configuration without a post selection.
- Recycled Plastic Posts: Made from recycled materials, these posts are resistant to rot, splinters, and weather deterioration - a great choice for eco-conscious projects and high-moisture environments.

FAQ
What ages is the Merry suitable for?
The Merry is designed for all ages and abilities. Its pentatonic tuning means even very young children can create pleasing music without any prior experience, while adults and older players enjoy the instrument just as much. The finished height can be adjusted based on mounting style and desired age group, making it adaptable to toddler play areas, all-ages parks, or therapeutic settings.
Does the Merry require any maintenance?
The Merry is built for low-maintenance outdoor use. Anodized aluminum notes resist corrosion and weathering, and the post materials (Recycled Plastic or Steel) are selected for outdoor durability. Periodic inspection of hardware and mallet tethers is recommended, but no special coatings or seasonal treatments are required.
Can the Merry stay outside year-round?
Yes - the Merry is engineered specifically for permanent outdoor installation in all climates. The anodized aluminum notes and weather-resistant construction handle rain, sun, and freezing temperatures without degrading tone or structural integrity.
What is the difference between Recycled Plastic and Steel posts?
Recycled Plastic posts are made from recycled materials and are highly resistant to moisture, rot, and splintering - making them an excellent choice for wet environments and eco-focused projects. Steel posts offer a more traditional look with maximum structural strength and are well-suited for high-traffic commercial and municipal installations. Both options are built to last; the choice typically comes down to aesthetic preference and sustainability goals.
Does the Merry pair well with other Freenotes instruments?
Absolutely. The Merry is frequently installed alongside the Piper, and together they create a complementary melodic combination that enriches any outdoor musical space. Because all Freenotes instruments are tuned to compatible scales, they can be mixed and matched across a site to build an entire outdoor music garden.
Is professional installation required?
Freenotes provides a detailed Installation Guide (available for download above) that covers all mount types. While some experienced facilities teams handle installation in-house, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper anchoring, safety compliance, and correct finished height for the intended age group.
