Flatline Van Co. Transit Van Safari Roof Rack - 148" Mid Roof
Description
The Flatline Van Co. Transit Safari Roof Rack is a purpose-built, DIY-friendly roof rack designed for Ford Transit 148" Mid Roof vans. Whether you're building out a full overland rig or just need a reliable platform to haul gear, the Safari Rack delivers the strength, versatility, and clean design that serious van lifers demand. Built from 1.5" aluminum round bar with laser-cut removable decking panels, this rack is engineered to last the lifetime of your van.
Installation requires no forklift and no specialty tools - just standard hand tools you already own. Removable aluminum decking panels are strategically positioned to accommodate rooftop fans and A/C units without cutting anything, while L-track mounting points on every panel let you lock down extra gear up top. Available in a classic Basket Style front or a Drop Front configuration ideal for mounting off-road lights, there's a version dialed in for exactly how you use your van.

Rack Style Options & Which to Choose
- Drop Front: Features a dropped front bar that creates a dedicated mounting zone for off-road light bars, pod lights, or other forward-facing accessories. Also adds usable deck space toward the front of the rack. Best for overlanders and trail runners who want to run lights and maximize their rooftop real estate.

FAQ
Will this rack fit my Transit van?
This listing is for the 2015-2025 Ford Transit 148" Mid Roof configuration. It fits Transit 150, 250, and 350 models with a 148" wheelbase and mid roof, including the 2023-2024 Transit Trail. If you have a high roof, extended wheelbase, or a 2026+ model year, those are available as separate variants. If you're unsure of your van's roof height, check your VIN or vehicle sticker - mid roof is the middle option between low and high.
Do I need a forklift or special equipment to install this rack?
No - the Transit Safari Rack is specifically designed for at-home, DIY installation using only standard hand tools. No forklift, no lift, and no specialty equipment is required. Most customers complete the install in a single day. Detailed installation guides are available as PDF downloads on this page for your specific size and style.
What is the difference between the Drop Front and Basket Style options?
The Drop Front features a lowered front bar that creates a mounting zone for off-road lights, light bars, or other forward-facing accessories, and also opens up additional usable deck space at the front of the rack. The Basket Style has a raised perimeter front that's great for containing gear and gives the rack a classic, clean look. If you plan to run a light bar or off-road lights, the Drop Front is the way to go. If you're focused on cargo hauling or a rooftop tent, the Basket Style is a great choice.
Can I install a rooftop fan or A/C unit with this rack on my van?
Yes - the removable decking panels are strategically positioned so you don't need to cut anything to accommodate a rooftop fan or A/C unit. Simply remove the relevant panel(s) to expose the fan opening. This is one of the standout design features of the Safari Rack and eliminates a common headache in van roof rack installations.
Is this rack compatible with roof top tents (RTTs)?
Yes, the Transit Safari Rack is compatible with most roof top tents. The 8020 crossbars with built-in hardware slots make it straightforward to mount RTT hardware without drilling. Always verify your specific RTT manufacturer's mounting requirements and weight ratings before installing.
Does the rack come with awning brackets?
Yes - awning attachment brackets are included with every Safari Rack. They are designed for the Fiamma F45S awning, which Flatline Van Co. recommends for its quality and durability, but they are also compatible with other wall-mount style awnings. The awning itself is sold separately.
