2007-2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144 Safari Roof Rack
Description
Picture yourself sitting on top of your Sprinter, sipping an ice-cold beer or a glass of wine, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The Flatline Van Co. Sprinter Safari Roof Rack turns that vision into reality - delivering aggressive styling, serious functionality, and a modular platform built for van life at its best. Designed specifically for 2007 and newer Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1500/2500/3500/3500XD High Roof vans in 144" and 170" wheelbase configurations, this rack is engineered to handle everything from overland adventures to rooftop relaxation.
The updated Safari Rack is loaded with features that make installation and customization genuinely easy. A single person can install it with basic hand tools - no forklift required. Removable aluminum decking panels eliminate the need to cut out fan or A/C locations, and 8020-compatible crossbars with built-in drop-in hardware slots make mounting solar panels, MaxTrax, gear boxes, and roof top tents straightforward. Integrated wire chase channels and an optional drop-front section keep lighting runs clean and professional.
Key Features
- Forklift-Free, DIY-Friendly Installation: One person can install the Safari Rack using basic hand tools - no specialized equipment or crew needed.
- Removable Aluminum Decking Panels: 144" racks include 10 panels; 170" racks include 12. Panels can be removed individually to accommodate roof fans, A/C units, or vents without cutting.
- 8020-Compatible Crossbars: New crossbar design features built-in drop-in hardware slots, making it simple to mount solar panels, MaxTrax, storage boxes, and more.
- L-Track Compatible Decking: L-track cutouts are integrated into the decking panels, giving you ultimate control over accessory placement and mounting.
- Integrated Wire Chase Channel: A wire chase runs around the entire perimeter of the rack, keeping electrical runs clean and eliminating loose, unsightly wires.
- Optional Drop-Front Section: Adds a dedicated mounting bar for lights (KC Lights, etc.) and increases usable deck space at the front of the van.
- 1.5" Diameter Tubing: Used on all sizes for a consistent, rugged structure across the full rack.
- Lightweight All-Aluminum Construction: Keeps the rack strong without adding unnecessary weight to your van's roof.
- Stainless Steel Pucks: Included for attachment to stock or aftermarket Sprinter roof tracks.
- Wall-Mount Awning Brackets Included: Fiamma F45 awning brackets come standard with every Safari Rack - compatible with most wall-mount awnings for full rain coverage.
- Roof Top Tent (RTT) Compatible: Works with most popular roof top tent brands and designs.
- Free Shipping to the Lower 48: No freight fees - ships free to the contiguous United States.
Size & Style Options - Which to Choose
- 144" Safari Rack (Basket Style): The standard open-basket configuration for 144" wheelbase Sprinters. Clean, functional, and maximizes rooftop deck space. Best for builders who want a versatile platform for solar, storage, and relaxation without a drop front.
- 144" Safari Rack with Drop Front: Adds a dedicated front drop-down bar ideal for mounting lights (KC Lights and similar), plus slightly increased deck area. Best for 144" wheelbase owners who plan to run auxiliary lighting or want a more aggressive front profile.
- 170" Safari Rack (Basket Style): Same open-basket design scaled for 170" wheelbase Sprinters. More panel count (12 vs. 10) for extra deck real estate. Great for 170" builds focused on overland storage, solar arrays, and rooftop camping.
- 170" Safari Rack with Drop Front: The largest and most feature-complete option - 170" wheelbase coverage plus the front drop-down lighting bar. Ideal for serious overlanders and full-time van lifers who want maximum space and lighting capability.

FAQ
Which wheelbase and style should I choose - 144" vs. 170", basket vs. drop front?
Match the wheelbase to your van - measure your Sprinter or check your VIN/registration if unsure. The 144" and 170" racks are not interchangeable. For style: the basket style is the clean, open-platform option ideal for solar, storage, and rooftop lounging. The drop front adds a dedicated front bar for mounting lights (like KC HiLiTES) and gives you a slightly more aggressive look with extra deck real estate. If you plan to run auxiliary lights up front, the drop front is worth the upgrade.
Can I really install this by myself without a forklift?
Yes - the Safari Rack was redesigned specifically to enable solo, forklift-free installation. Multiple verified customer reviews confirm that one person can complete the install in a single afternoon using basic hand tools like wrenches and a socket set. Flatline Van Co. provides detailed PDF installation guides and video tutorials to walk you through every step.
Will this rack work with my roof fan or A/C unit?
Yes. The removable decking panels are specifically designed so you can remove individual panels where your fan or A/C unit sits - no cutting required. The 144" rack includes 10 panels and the 170" includes 12, giving you flexibility to open up any section of the deck.
What solar panels and accessories can I mount on this rack?
The 8020-compatible crossbars with drop-in hardware slots are designed to make mounting solar panels, MaxTrax recovery boards, gear boxes, and other accessories straightforward. The L-track compatible decking panels provide additional attachment points. Most standard van-life accessories that use 8020 or L-track mounting systems will be compatible.
Is the Fiamma F45 awning included, or just the brackets?
The Fiamma F45 wall-mount awning brackets are included with every Safari Rack purchase. The Fiamma F45 awning itself is sold separately. Flatline Van Co. recommends the Fiamma F45 for its quality and fit, but other wall-mount awnings are also compatible with the included brackets.
Does this rack fit both the standard high roof and the extended high roof Sprinter?
The Safari Rack is designed for Sprinter High Roof models. Fitment covers 2007 and newer Sprinter 1500, 2500, 3500, and 3500XD in 144" and 170" wheelbase configurations with High Roof.
