Crupi Catalina 2.0 Expert Race Bike Frame

Description

The Crupi Catalina 2.0 Expert Race Frame is a ground-up redesign of one of BMX racing's most trusted platforms, hand built in the USA for riders ready to compete. It carries forward Crupi's proven race-winning geometry while introducing wrap-around seat stays, a slightly shorter seat tube, and a fully integrated disc brake adapter - no axle-mounted adapters required. Constructed from seamless drawn 6061 T6 butted aluminum, every tube is engineered with a purpose: squared-off ends for maximum welding surface, a larger diameter square-shaped down tube for added stiffness, and tear-drop shaped chain stays for a powerful, responsive rear end.

Designed for riders between 4'7" and 5', the 19.5" top tube geometry keeps handling precise and predictable at race speeds. Whether you're chasing gate times at a local club or competing at the national level, the Catalina 2.0 delivers the rigidity, brake compatibility, and rider-focused design that serious BMX racers demand.

Key Features

  • Hand Built in the USA: Every Crupi frame is individually hand built in America, ensuring quality craftsmanship and consistent race-ready performance.
  • 6061 T6 Butted Aluminum Tubing: Seamless drawn 6061 T6 butted construction delivers a lightweight yet extremely strong frame built to handle the punishment of competitive BMX racing.
  • 19.5" Top Tube / Rider Size 4'7" to 5': Race-optimized geometry sized for smaller competitive riders, with a slightly shorter seat tube for an aggressive, efficient riding position.
  • Built-In Disc Brake Adapter: The all-new integrated disc adapter eliminates the need for axle-mounted adapters - compatible with Tektro, TRP Evo, TRP Slate, and all Shimano hydraulic disc brake kits (120mm rotor required; Hope, Avid, and mechanical kits do not fit).
  • V-Brake Compatible: Brake posts are retained on all Crupi frames, allowing use with standard V-Brakes for riders who prefer traditional braking setups.
  • Wrap-Around Seat Stays: Redesigned seat stays provide improved frame rigidity and a clean, modern aesthetic distinctive to the Catalina 2.0.
  • Tear-Drop Chain Stay Design: Chain stay tubes are tear-drop shaped for exceptional stiffness and strength through the rear triangle - critical for powerful sprints and gate starts.
  • Square-Shaped Down Tube: Larger diameter square down tube geometry adds significant stiffness and strength to the front triangle where it matters most.
  • 3/8" (10mm) Parallel Axle Slots: Rear axle slots run parallel to the ground so frame geometry remains consistent regardless of rear wheel position - no guesswork during wheel adjustments.
  • Thicker 3D Drop-Outs: Reinforced 3D drop-outs add stiffness specifically for disc brake use while still accommodating standard chain tensioners for easy rear wheel installation.
  • 1" Integrated Head Tube / EB24 Euro BB: Features a 1" integrated head tube and traditional EB24 Euro bottom bracket standard for broad component compatibility.

Why You'll Love It

Crupi has been building race-proven BMX frames in the United States for decades, and the Catalina 2.0 represents the brand's most refined take on expert-class racing geometry. Every detail - from the tear-drop chain stays to the integrated disc adapter - is the result of real feedback from competitive riders who push their equipment to the limit. The all-American construction means you're getting a frame held to exacting standards, not a mass-produced import, and that shows in the ride quality and long-term durability. Because these frames are hand built to order, availability is limited - when you get one, you're getting something genuinely special. For the competitive young rider or their dedicated parent looking to invest in real race-ready equipment, the Catalina 2.0 is a frame that will grow with their skills and hold up through countless races and seasons.

FAQ

Does this frame require a special disc brake adapter?

The Catalina 2.0 features a built-in disc adapter, so no axle-mounted adapter is needed. However, you must use Crupi's Disc Adapter Kit along with a 120mm rotor for proper fitment. Compatible hydraulic disc brake systems include Tektro, TRP Evo, TRP Slate, and all Shimano kits. Note that Hope, Avid, and all mechanical disc brake kits are not compatible with this frame.

Can I still use V-Brakes on this frame?

Yes - all Crupi frames retain brake posts, so standard V-Brakes are fully supported. This gives riders the flexibility to run either a traditional V-Brake setup or upgrade to a compatible hydraulic disc brake system.

What size rider is this frame designed for?

The Catalina 2.0 Expert Race Frame features a 19.5" top tube and is designed for riders between 4'7" and 5' tall. If you're unsure about sizing, it's always a good idea to reference a BMX sizing chart or contact us for guidance before purchasing.

What bottom bracket and headset does this frame use?

The Catalina 2.0 uses a traditional EB24 Euro bottom bracket and a 1" integrated head tube. Crupi also offers compatible integrated headsets and headset spacers separately if you need to source those components.

Why is the frame sometimes out of stock?

All Crupi frames are hand built in the USA, which means production quantities are limited compared to mass-manufactured imports. Because of this, certain sizes and colors can sell out quickly. If your preferred size or color is unavailable, you can contact Crupi directly to be placed on a priority list - when new stock is built, priority list customers get first access.

Does the frame ship assembled or will I need to build it up?

This listing is for the frame only - it ships as a bare frame and will need to be built up with your choice of components (fork, headset, bottom bracket, cranks, wheels, etc.). It ships via standard ground shipping, not freight, and does not come pre-assembled.
