Brownie's Sea LiON Battery-Powered Tankless Dive System
Description
The Sea LiON is Brownie's answer to a cleaner, quieter, more convenient way to dive with a crew. Powered by a rechargeable lithium battery instead of gasoline, it eliminates the fuel can, pull cord and exhaust fumes while delivering variable-speed breathing air to up to four divers from a single floating platform. The compressor responds to demand automatically and shuts off when the system reaches its pressure setting, extending battery life and keeping surface noise to a minimum.
Built in South Florida by the team that pioneered the Original Gas tankless dive system in 1969, the Sea LiON carries decades of Brownie's engineering into a battery-powered design made for boat days, beach dives, lobster season and any underwater adventure where you want to bring the whole crew. Brownie's quick-release QRS fittings keep hoses organized and diver swaps fast, while the removable battery pack splits the approximately 53 lb assembly into two manageable pieces for easy loading and unloading.
Key Features
- Battery-Powered, No Fuel Required: Rechargeable lithium battery replaces gasoline - start with a push of a button, no pull cord or exhaust fumes.
- Variable-Speed Compressor: Automatically responds to air demand and shuts off at its pressure setting to conserve battery energy between diver breaths.
- Accumulator Tank: Acts as an air buffer so divers breathe smoothly from stored volume while the compressor cycles to refill - no air interruption.
- Supports 2-4 Divers: One floating platform supplies individual air hoses to two, three or four divers simultaneously (four-diver use limited to 10-15 ft depth).
- Removable Battery Pack: Battery separates from the floating unit so you can carry the system in two lighter pieces and swap charged packs between dives.
- Brownie's QRS Quick-Release Fittings: Proprietary quick-release connections make adding, removing and organizing diver hoses and equipment fast on the water.
- Peleton-Style Hose Arrangement: Each diver receives a dedicated individual air hose from the surface unit, keeping everyone connected and organized.
- ~53 lb Assembled Weight: Approximate operating weight with battery installed - lighter than a comparable gas system with engine and compressor combined.
- Dimensions: 33 x 19 x 36 in: Compact floating footprint sized for use from a boat deck or beach launch.
- Made in South Florida: Designed and built by the Brownie's team with replacement parts available and authorized service centers nationwide.
Battery Options & Which to Choose
- 50Ah Battery (~2 hr 15 min): The standard included battery is the right pick for half-day dive sessions, casual boat days and situations where you plan to bring a spare pack or keep dives shorter. Lighter and less expensive, it covers most recreational use cases with room to add a second battery later.
- 70Ah Battery (~3 hr): Upgrade to the 70Ah for longer bottom time without a battery swap. Ideal for extended reef or wreck dives, lobster trips where you want more time in the water, or any outing where carrying a spare is inconvenient. The 70Ah replaces the included 50Ah battery and adds approximately 45 minutes of runtime.

FAQ
How do I know when the battery is running low?
Airflow will begin to decline toward the end of the battery charge. Treat any noticeable reduction in airflow as a signal to end the dive and surface. Always monitor battery status throughout your dive, plan conservatively, and do not rely on the final portion of the charge to complete a dive.
Can I add a fourth diver to the Sea LiON?
Yes, the Sea LiON can support up to four divers, but four-diver use is limited to a maximum depth of 10-15 feet. Actual depth capability and runtime vary with diver count, individual breathing demand, water conditions and the battery selected. Always configure for your specific dive conditions.
How long does the battery last on a single charge?
The 50Ah battery provides approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes of runtime, while the 70Ah battery provides approximately 3 hours. These are estimates and will vary based on depth, the number of active divers, individual breathing demand, water conditions and battery age. Plan conservatively and consider bringing a spare battery for longer outings.
Can I bring a spare battery to extend my dive day?
Absolutely. The Sea LiON's battery is designed to be removed and swapped without moving the entire floating unit. Spare 50Ah and 70Ah batteries are available as add-ons, each including their own charger and protective storage case. This makes back-to-back dives easy to manage from a boat or beach.
Is scuba certification required to use the Sea LiON?
Brownie's strongly recommends appropriate dive training for all users. Breathing underwater involves inherent risk, and proper instruction, maintenance, dive planning and emergency preparation are essential. Every diver should remain prepared to make an emergency ascent, and Brownie's offers online training resources to help you get started safely.
What is the Safety Package and do I need it?
The optional Safety Package pairs each diver in your selected group with a Spare Air Add-On Kit (3 cubic foot independent backup air) and a SEAC Screen wrist-mounted dive computer. It is supplemental equipment and does not replace training or proper dive planning, but it adds a meaningful layer of backup for divers going beyond depths where they would be comfortable with a free-swimming ascent. It is available for 2-, 3- and 4-diver configurations.
