B&W Companion Slider 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch

Description

The B&W Companion Slider is a premium 20,000 lb. gross trailer weight fifth wheel hitch engineered for pickup truck owners who demand a smooth, secure, and clean towing experience. Available in five mount configurations - including the Turnoverball single-point, Ford OEM puck, Ram OEM puck, GM 2016-2019 puck, and GM 2020-2022 puck systems - it fits a wide range of modern trucks right out of the box. The slider design adds 12 inches of rearward travel, giving shortbed truck owners the extra cab clearance needed for tight turning maneuvers without sacrificing highway towing confidence.

B&W's machined jaws fit the king pin precisely, eliminating slop and delivering a noticeably quieter, smoother ride compared to standard hitches. Polyurethane bushings and a built-in shock absorber work together to absorb road roughness and dampen side-to-side movement, so every mile feels more controlled. Finished in a medium gray powder coat and backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty, the Companion Slider is built to the exacting standards that have made B&W one of the most trusted names in American-made towing equipment.

Key Features

  • 20,000 lb. GTW / 5,000 lb. VTW: High-capacity ratings handle heavy fifth wheel RVs and trailers with confidence.
  • 12" Slider Travel: Slides rearward 12 inches and locks in place, providing essential cab clearance for shortbed trucks during tight turns.
  • Cam-Action Jaw Release: Effortless handle operation - when open, the cam moves out of the way so jaws release cleanly; when closed, the cam locks jaws securely to prevent accidental uncoupling.
  • Machined Jaw Fit: Jaws are precision-machined to match the coupler exactly, eliminating slop and reducing noise and movement while towing.
  • Polyurethane Bushings + Shock Absorber: The coupler rides on polyurethane bushings that smooth out road roughness, while a built-in shock absorber handles side-to-side movement without slamming.
  • Multiple Mount Options: Compatible with the Turnoverball single-point underbed system, Ford OEM puck, Ram OEM puck, GM 2016-2019 puck, and GM 2020-2022 puck systems.
  • Clean Bed When Not in Use: The single-point and puck-mounted designs leave a flat, uncluttered truck bed when the hitch is removed - no permanent rails to work around.
  • Medium Gray Powder Coat Finish: Durable, corrosion-resistant finish designed to stand up to years of outdoor use.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: B&W backs the Companion Slider with a full limited lifetime warranty for long-term peace of mind.
  • American Made: Designed and built in the USA to B&W's rigorous quality standards.

Mount Options & Which to Choose

  • Turnoverball Single-Point Mount (RVK3405): Designed for trucks with B&W's Turnoverball Gooseneck hitch already installed. The base drops into the existing underbed hole, latches in the wheel well, and tightens with a drawdown bolt - no new drilling required. This is the best option if you also tow gooseneck trailers, since the Turnoverball ball can be flipped over and stowed cleanly in the receiver when not in use.
  • Ford OEM Puck System (RVK3370): Fits the factory-installed 5-hole puck towing prep package found in Ford trucks. Simply drop the base into the pucks, turn the handle, and pin in place. Ideal for Ford owners who want a premium upgrade over the factory OEM hitch.
  • Ram OEM Puck System (RVK3670): Engineered to lock securely into Ram trucks with the factory puck prep package. Drop-in installation is fast and straightforward, making it the natural choice for Ram owners with the factory towing system.
  • GM 2016-2019 OEM Puck System (RVK3770): Designed specifically for the puck platform found in 2016-2019 GM trucks. Delivers the same B&W coupler quality with a base optimized for the older GM puck hole pattern.
  • GM 2020-2022 OEM Puck System (RVK3775): Built to fit the updated puck system used in 2020-2022 GM trucks. The right choice for owners of newer GM trucks who want the full B&W Companion Slider experience with a clean, factory-integrated installation.

Manuals & Guides

FAQ

How does the Companion Slider install?

Installation depends on your mount option. For the Turnoverball single-point version, the base has a square post that drops into a 4-inch hole in the bed that is part of the existing Turnoverball underbed mounting system. A lever in the wheel well engages a pin through the post, and a drawdown bolt on top creates upward pressure to lock it in place. The coupler then sets on top of the base and pins in place. For OEM puck system versions, simply drop the base into the factory puck holes, turn the handle, and pin in place.

Can I use the Companion Slider with a short bed truck?

Yes - many short bed truck owners successfully tow fifth wheel trailers using the Companion Slider. The 12-inch slider travel is specifically designed to provide the extra cab clearance needed during tight turns. Key factors include the pin box location on your trailer, the shape and width of your trailer, and the type of maneuvering you anticipate. For best results, always lock the slider in the forward position for highway towing and only slide rearward at maneuvering speeds when extra turning room is needed.

Will the Companion Slider work with a bedliner?

Yes, but if you are using a plastic drop-in bedliner, you will need to cut a hole in the liner large enough for the Companion base to fit through. Spray-in bedliners are typically not an issue as they can be cut or were applied after the mounting hole was made.

Do I need a lube disc with the Companion Slider?

A lube disc is not required. You can apply standard automotive chassis grease to the top plate of the hitch. If you prefer a cleaner, greaseless option, B&W recommends their American-made graphite lube disc, which is available separately.

Can I purchase the base and coupler separately?

Yes. Since all hitches in the Companion line use the same RVC3006 coupler head, you can purchase the base that fits your truck separately. B&W offers both stationary and slider versions for Ram, GM, and Ford factory puck packages, as well as the single-point Turnoverball attachment.

Is it safe to use third-party converters or extenders with the Companion?

B&W strongly recommends against using any product with the Companion's mounting system that has not been manufactured and tested by B&W. Using third-party products will void the warranty and may create serious safety risks. B&W is particularly concerned about aftermarket pin boxes that move the pivot point rearward of the hitch jaws, as this creates stress loads outside normal testing parameters for fifth wheel hitches.

What is the difference between the RVK3400 and the RVK3405?

The RVK3405 is the upgraded successor introduced in January 2016. It is rated at 20,000 lb. GTW, compared to the older RVK3400 which was rated at 18,000 lb. GTW. B&W now exclusively offers the higher-rated RVK3405 in response to customer demand for heavier-duty RV hitch capacity.
