Roselli RD320P The Grandfather Knife, Damascus
Description
The Roselli Grandfather Knife in Damascus is a masterpiece of Finnish craftsmanship - a stout, generously proportioned working blade that earns its place in any serious knife collection. Handcrafted in Harmoinen, Finland, this knife features a hand-forged Damascus blade built from over 1,000 layers of Stenco Leuku, Fe 37 steel, and nickel, producing a blade of extraordinary beauty and around 60 HRC hardness. It is equally at home as a rugged field skinner, a heritage-inspired bushcraft blade, or the crown jewel of a collector's display.
The handle is carved from stained curly birch - etched and coated with linseed oil for a secure, slip-resistant grip even in cold or wet conditions - and accented with bolsters of 925 sterling silver for a finish that is as elegant as it is functional. Because it is made from natural materials, every single piece is entirely unique in pattern and texture. It arrives in a handcrafted vegetable-tanned dark leather sheath, completing one of the most compelling knife packages available from Finland today.

FAQ
What makes Damascus steel special compared to regular knife steel?
Damascus steel is created by forge-welding multiple layers of different steel types together and repeatedly folding them - in this case, over 1,000 layers of Stenco Leuku, Fe 37 steel, and nickel. This process creates the distinctive flowing pattern visible on the blade surface, and results in a blade that balances hardness and toughness in a way single-steel blades often cannot. At around 60 HRC, the Roselli Grandfather Damascus holds a sharp edge exceptionally well while remaining resistant to brittleness.
Is this knife intended for use in the field or is it primarily a collector's piece?
It is genuinely both. The Grandfather Knife has a stout, thick blade well-suited to real-world tasks like skinning game, camp work, and bushcraft. At the same time, the sterling silver bolsters, hand-finished curly birch handle, and unique Damascus patterning make it a natural centerpiece for any serious knife collection. Many buyers purchase it as a premium hunting companion that doubles as a display piece.
Will my knife look exactly like the one pictured?
Not exactly - and that is part of what makes it special. Because the blade is hand-forged from layered steel and the handle is carved from natural curly birch, every knife has its own unique pattern, grain, and character. No two Roselli Damascus knives are identical. You will receive a one-of-a-kind piece.
Can I add custom engraving, and how does that affect shipping time?
Yes - custom engraving is available for an additional $12 USD and makes this knife an exceptional personalized gift for a hunter, collector, or outdoorsman. Please note that engraved orders require up to 7 additional days from the purchase date before they ship, so plan accordingly if you have a deadline.
How should I care for a Damascus blade and curly birch handle?
Damascus blades benefit from periodic light oiling to prevent surface oxidation - a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or camellia oil after use is ideal. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or acidic materials. The curly birch handle has been treated with linseed oil from the factory, and an occasional re-application of linseed or similar natural oil will keep the wood looking its best and maintain its moisture resistance over time.
Does this knife ship with insurance, and what does that cover?
Yes - complimentary shipping insurance is included with every purchase of this knife. This provides coverage in the unlikely event of loss or damage during transit, giving you peace of mind when investing in a premium handcrafted blade.
