FAQ
Is the Direwolf UL 2849 certified?
Yes. The Birch Direwolf carries UL 2849 certification, which covers the complete electrical system - including the battery, motor, controller, and charger. This is a full-system safety certification, not just a battery certification, meaning every electrical component has been independently tested to reduce risks such as overheating, short circuits, and electrical failure.
How far can the Direwolf travel on a single charge?
In pedal-assist mode, the Direwolf is rated for up to 85 miles per charge. If you're riding in throttle-only mode, expect a range of around 45 miles. Real-world range will vary based on rider weight, terrain, load carried, and assist level selected.
Can I use this bike to haul a deer or other large game?
Absolutely. The Direwolf is built with a 400 lb total payload capacity, a rear rack rated for up to 110 lb, and a front rack rated for 33 lb. Combined with optional accessories like the cargo trailer, it's well-equipped to pack out your harvest from remote locations.
What is the difference between a mid-drive and a hub-drive motor for hunting use?
A mid-drive motor is mounted at the center of the frame near the pedals, which keeps the bike's weight low and balanced - this makes a significant difference in handling on steep slopes and uneven terrain. Mid-drive motors also leverage the bike's gears for more efficient power delivery under load, which is a major advantage when carrying heavy gear or climbing hills. Hub-drive motors are typically simpler but don't perform as well in demanding off-road conditions.
Is the Direwolf street-legal?
The Direwolf is classified as a Class 5 eBike, meaning it can exceed the typical 20-28 mph Class 1-3 limits depending on settings. Laws governing eBike use on public roads and trails vary by state and municipality. We recommend checking your local regulations before riding on public roads or trails, as Class 5 eBikes may be restricted in some areas.
Where does the Direwolf ship, and how long does delivery take?
The Direwolf ships free to all lower 48 US states and is dispatched within 2 business days of your order. Please note that shipping is not available to New York City, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, PO Boxes, or APO addresses. The bike arrives largely assembled and requires only quick final installation steps to get riding.
